configure8 ingests and aggregates your cloud infrastructure cost across providers and accounts. It enables your development team to get a detailed look at the cost of the resources their services and environments are using. Bringing cost visibility directly to engineers has proven to be a critical factor in managing overall cloud spend.
configure8 currently supports integrating cost data from AWS. GCP and Azure cost support will be added in the future. You must have a working AWS integration configured in configure8 and follow the instructions to configure AWS Cost Ingestion. Cost data can take 24-48 hours to populate in configure8 and will be updated daily.
Costs in configure8 are shown on the Cloud Resources page. To see costs, navigate to this page via Catalog->Resources. Once there, you will see your cloud resources with a cost graph showing the current and previous period costs. You can adjust the period by clicking the date range to the upper right of the table and entering the dates you desire.
Filters are powerful tools for navigating your organization's many resources across many accounts. Use filters to see the resources you care about. Resources can be filtered by type, name, cloud provider, account, availability zone, and mapping status.
Filters are composable and can be combined via and/or:
Clicking the sort arrow in the column header of the table will sort resources that have met your filter criteria in ascending or descending order, enabling you to see your most expensive resources or the resources whose costs have changed the most.
Grouping resources is a powerful feature that combines the raw cost data with the richness of configure8's universal catalog.
Select Group By -> Resource to view all your resources grouped by type. You can expand the resource group to reveal the individual resources.
Select Group By -> Environment to view all your resources grouped by environment. You can expand the environment to reveal the individual resources in the environment. To create this view, environment grouping leverages configure8's universal catalog and Service<>Environment<>Resource mappings. To learn more about how to map resources to environments and services, see the Resources page and the Resource Auto Mapping page.
Select Group By -> Service to view all your resources grouped by service. You can expand the service to reveal individual resources. To create this view, service grouping leverages configure8's universal catalog and Service<>Environment<>Resource mappings. To learn more about how to map resources to environments and services, see the Resources page and the Resource Auto Mapping page.
Cloud resources shared among multiple services will have their cost summed for each service.
A detailed view of costs is available on resources where cost information is present. Click on a resource and choose the cost tab to see a detailed breakdown of costs by cost component.
You can make changes to a selected resource while staying within the guardrails of your platform engineering team controls and following your existing approval processes (but without incurring the cognitive load of finding scripts and executing them in IAC or waiting in a ticket queue) via Self-Serve Actions by configure8.
